Our community garden is a bit different from other community gardens, in that we put a lot of emphasis on the “community” part of gardening together. We meet each week to work and to share a meal together. This season, we’re meeting on Thursday evenings. We get together for the work we need to do, and toward the end of our time we share a potluck meal together. This is a fun way to build community, get to know the people with whom we are working the soil, and it’s a good way to get people involved who have no idea how to garden. They might not be able to just show up and plant their own crops, but everyone is capable of following directions. As we go through the summer, everyone learns how to do things a little better. We pool our knowledge, work together, and share all the produce at harvest time.
Below are a few photos from one of our weekly gatherings, when we were transplanting small seedlings into bigger pots.
